Happy Hour: 4 - 6 PM

Eating dinner at four in the afternoon? Sure, it's typical for people my grandmother's age...but I'm only thirty (thirty-one in 8 days!). Eating a bowl of yummy pasta during happy hour at Serratto left me full enough to finish the night without additional snacking (which is so often the case). I suppose I did share a big ol' piece of birthday cake later that night...but still! I probably could have gone without.

We were a big group today, pushing two tables together on the sidewalk outside Serratto. It was a good mix and the conversation kept up as did our server. She was great about checking in as everyone arrived, taking drink orders and making sure there were enough chairs and enough place settings to go around. A+ to her for taking on the big group at what must typically be a quiet way to start the workday.

Serratto offers a pretty substantial happy hour menu--both in the portion sizes and in the variety of dishes. I had a hard time trying to decide between the cheese pizza or the hummus plate (which was served with olives and fresh veggies). In the end, I went with the rigatoni. I had skipped right by it as it is normally served with sausage but spotted it just as our server was about to take my order. I double checked with her to see if it would be too boring without the sausage. She said it was the fresh mozzarella that made it so good and she was right. The pasta (listed at six dollars for happy hour--down from thirteen for dinner) was served with a tomato sauce, fresh basil, parmasean (or maybe asiago) grated on top, and little pockets of melting mozzarella cheese. It was fantastic and, like I said before, enough to fill me up for the night.

Although a glass of red wine probably would have been better suited with my food selection, I had already ordered a lemon drop. Serratto offers discounts on both red and white wine as well as lemon drops, cosmopolitans, and margaritas. The lemon drop wasn't the best match for my meal but went well with the weather as it was warm and sunny.
