Produce Row Cafe--a second perspective - CLOSED

Produce Row Cafe
204 SE Oak Street
Happy Hour: 3 - 6 PM

I met up with two of my friends at Produce Row for Happy Hour after work recently. We started out outside, but we decided to move inside after realizing that the outside area was a bit noisy. If we had known that a bunch of loud businessmen types would be sitting next to us inside, we might have stuck to the outside area, but it ended up being fine anyway.

I started with a pumpkin beer that they had on tap (Elysian). It ended up being a big hit--so much, in fact, that my friend went out and bought a six-pack of it the next day! I didn't like it quite that much, but I did enjoy it.

We looked at the menu online before we even arrived, so we knew that there were two things we had to try.  Our table got two orders of the hand-battered corndogs and the Frito pie. I do not see them on the menu now, so I am a little concerned that they may have changed it up since then. In any case, we enjoyed both of these items. However, I felt like the corn dog had a little too much batter. I know, how is that even possible? The batter is the best part, right? Somehow, though, it just went overboard.

The Frito pie was good, too, although I secretly hoped it would be served in the Frito bag (I have only heard of this happening--I've never actually seen it). Surprisingly enough, our conversation ended up turning to the idea of finding a healthy Happy Hour place for our next Happy Hour date...I wonder what could have triggered that idea?

In any case, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at Produce Row. The service was also quite good, and I will definitely be back again.

  1. Produce Row used to be a total dive. I stopped going for a few years and then recently returned. The food was much better, the atmosphere was nice. Definitely a step up!
