Another look @ Isabel Pearl

330 NW 10th Avenue
Happy Hour: 4 - 6 PM, Monday through Friday

It's been a week and I still can't remember where I was when I last had a fried avocado taco. It's an amazing concept and one that I immediately learned to love. Maybe it was when we were on our honeymoon on Isla Mujeres. Maybe it was just another happy hour. I know I've eaten one and I know that I want to eat another. Which is why I broke my "No Groupon, Living Social, or Portland Perks" rule this morning when I saw the half off deal. I know I'm going to use it and that makes it okay. The discounts at Happy Hour may not be that spectacular, but the flavors are pretty stellar and I want another FRIED AVOCADO TACO NOW.

The Avocado Tacos are $3.50 each during Happy Hour. We all have pretty high expectations for discounts during Happy Hour, so I was a bit caught off guard when the teeny tiny taco arrived to the table. It was delicious, don't get me wrong. I loved every bite. There were just too few of them.

To add a bit more to the meal--and give us the opportunity to sample more of their menu--I also ordered the quesadilla trio. They were also quite small but came full of flavor. I was able to taste two of the three as one was made with chicken. I had a hard time deciding whether I liked the one with the poblano peppers or the one with the mushrooms better, so I switched on and off every other bite. I'm sure it was a sight to see.

They had a long list of margaritas to choose from but when I learned that the four cocktails listed separately where almost brand new to the menu, I decided I had better give one of them a try. I picked the Paloma because of the house-infused berry tequila. The grapefruit soda added some bubbles and the lime made the complete flavor taste an awful lot like summer. After the first sip--and knowing that my freezer is full of fresh picked berries from Sauvie Island--I knew I needed to make an attempt at my own house-infused tequila. I've had success with vodka in the past, but never thought to add a little berry flavor to any other bottles.

I'm eager to get back to Isabel Pearl for that Beer-Battered Fried Avocado Taco. Maybe I'll have two. The Portland Perks deal comes with a total of four tacos and two margaritas for just sixteen dollars. That's WAY better than the price we paid for Happy Hour and isn't limited to the early afternoon hours.  It's only available for another nine days or until they run out. And I'm guessing that they just might, so hurry.
