Sonic Drive-In

Multiple Locations
Happy Hour: 2 - 4 PM

Slushes in the summertime make me happy. (They also make me feel like I'm in the third grade again.) And slushes at half-price make me want to live closer to the main slushy source, Sonic. Sonic Drive-Ins were only in the commercials (or so it seemed) until recently. They started popping up a few years ago and now it seems that they are everywhere but Portland. We passed at least two on our way to Bend last week and immediately knew that it would be the perfect icy-cold treat on the way back. And luckily enough, we were driving by at the perfect time.

Sonic offers slushes (both the classic AND the fresh fruit variety) for half-price every afternoon between two and four. They aren't all that pricy to begin with, but the savings makes it that much better. (They also have discounts on milkshakes later in the day.) Some of the fancier versions (those that are topped with whipped cream) aren't included in the discount pricing.

I was excited to see that they had fresh fruit options and immediately selected lime as my flavor of choice (it almost always is...). There were a few others on the menu that looked appealing and then a few that seemed all too sweet.

The ice was PERFECT but tough to conquer while in the car. I took my time, letting the flavors melt back into shape, and enjoyed the beverage all the way up and over the mountain.

They have plenty of other snacking items available at Sonic. And full meals, if that's what you want. I'll probably stick to the slushes. And I'll do my best to order them between two and four.
